October 31 - November 4

Happy Halloween!

On Monday we will be having fun Halloween activities in the afternoon. Halloween booklets are due on November 1st.

LA - we are starting a unit on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Due to the problems we encountered with the Biography Unit (students had difficulties with managing time to complete all activities by the due date, and some were very stressed during the last week), there will be firm due dates for EACH assignment. It will be quite important for students to complete their homework on the due date throughout this unit so they do not fall behind. Parents will receive a letter this week advising them about activities and due dates for this unit.

Math - Students will be having a unit test on Thursday. They should have brought home a study sheet last week so that they can come to me this week with anything they are unsure of.

Art - All assignments are due by Wednesday, or students will be receiving an incomplete on report cards. Students have received a sheet advising them on what they have not handed in to this point.

Science - Cloud projects were well done. We will be doing oral presentations this week, and having a cloud quiz on Wednesday. This quiz is based on notes that students took on the characteristics of five different clouds.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you!

Hi everyone,
Here's how our week looks so far...

LA - We are having our Diagnostic Writing Assessment this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, the Division 2 test will be marked, so there will be a substitute teacher. Students are also working on a Halloween booklet that involves different forms of writing (some poems, menus, letters, etc..) The Halloween booklet will be due on November 1st.

Math - Students continue to work on number concepts. We are also working on reviewing subtraction, multiplication and basic division. There will be another quiz on Thursday.

Science - Weather reports are being handed back on Monday. We will be going over the marking scheme and students will be bringing it home for you to take a look at and sign. We are also starting to learn about the different types of clouds. Students will be doing a visual presentations on clouds using cotton balls to represent the various types of clouds. They will be doing a short oral presentation to explain their cotton ball poster. This will be due on Thursday, October 27.

SS - (with Mr. Pedersen) Students continue to work on research reports.

Art - Students continue to work with digital video cameras to finish off their claymation art projects.

October 11 - 14

Hello to all,
Thanks go out to Mrs. G and Mrs. T who accompanied us on our field trip to "The Miracle Worker". Without them, we wouldn't have been able to attend! Thanks again.

Apologies for those of you who have been checking this website. I did not think that anyone was using it, so if you are (and I know that Mrs. B and Mrs. M are!) then great, and I will do the updates for you. So here we go...

Important Info! Please make sure that your child is here in the morning on the following dates in October as we will be doing formal reading and writing assessments. October 20, 24, 25, 26. This will be a big help if they are in school on those dates.

LA - Biography Unit is due on October 20th. Students have a checklist of tasks that need to be completed which include reading and writing, as well as a final project. This was handed out to them on the first day of our unit in the first week of September. They are able to bring this home whenever they feel like it. The final project can be a picture book biography (10 pages long with about one or two sentences per page and hand drawn pictures) or a dinner party (written like a script) of four characters (deceased or alive) and themselves as the host. Dinner party scripts need to show your knowledge of the people you are writing about. If you need more information please let me know.

Math - We will be having a math quiz every Thursday. This counts as part of report card marks, but also as a way for me to know how they are doing and where to focus instruction. We are continuing with place value, and reading and writing larege numbers. Students continue to do problem solving. Some of these problems may be challenging to students. My main concern is that they try to solve these and show some work when doing so. I am not concerned so much with the final answer as I am with the way they are getting there and the strategies they are using.

Science - Weather reports are due on the 13th of October. Please make sure that rough copies are in to me on Tuesday so that I have time to help correct the essays. It is important that students follow the structure we have laid out in class unitl they get the hang of writing a five paragraph essay. This will help them organize their thoughts and ideas into paragraphs that make sense.

Thank you very much for taking the time to check up on what we are doing in class. I know that with the weather report and the Biography unit that some children are feeling a little overwhelmed. Other homework will be kept to the bare minimum until these projects are finished, and then things will calm down again. If you would like to see other items added to this website please let me know. :-)
